This fact also made it a bit tricky to correctly estimate the amount of beans needed for a single pot. Unfortunately, I prefer to alternate the varieties of coffee I use so there is absolutely no advantage in pouring a half pound in at a time. ( Perhaps adding some sort of measurement indicators on the bin would help).Second, the bin holding the ground beans is extremely difficult to slide back in, a flaw the Krups had as well. I recently purchased the Cuisinart DBM-8 grinder after my Krups grinder failed after 1 year. So far the Cuisinart is holding up quite well to twice daily use but there are a couple of minor details that could use a bit of improvement.First, Cusinart touts the fact that the bin will hold up to a half pound of beans.
So relatively light duty. Next stop for me.a Baratza Maestro. My wife bought me this grinder for Father's Day 2009. I've sent an email to Cuisinart customer service via their website.total radio silence. Don't waste your time or money on a Cuisinart grinder. The motor burned out by December. Only used it on weekends to grind our breakfast coffee which was coarse ground.
Grind is very even and the fact that I don't have to refill it every day is awesome. I was looking for a grinder to take the place of a horrible Black and Decker model we bought about 6 months ago and saw this. All in all I think it's an awesome value option over grinders that cost at least twice as much and do the exact same thing. Unlike other reviewers I have found that you CAN get to the burr grinder mechanism simply by unscrewing the entire hopper by grabbing the black grind selector ring and turn to coarse and keep turning to unscrew - then you can clean the grinding mechanism. We had one of the original Cuisinart grinders and loved it (a victim of my friends clumsiness). I love this so far; looks far more expensive than it's price tag, and goes well with the Cuisinart stainless steel coffee maker we recently purchased.
Easy to use, easy to clean, and easy to change grind settings. If you need a burr grinder for home, just get this one and enjoy.
I bought this grinder a little over two years ago. It was easy to clean and easy to maintain.About a month ago, I noticed that my grounds were not coming out fine anymore. It worked fine. I couldn't do anything with that grinder without getting grounds EVERYWHERE.
The representative said that since the item only had an eighteen month warranty, I was pretty much out a coffee grinder. I did everything I could to make sure there wasn't anything stuck inside. Finally I emailed the company off their own web site. I couldn't have it repaired or anything. To my surprise they called my on my house phone. I bought it for the sole purpose of grinding beans for espresso (using the fine setting).
I made sure that I wasn't doing anything stupid. I was just out. I agree with the other reviewer who commented on the static build up. However, it did what I wanted it to.
